Certifying Doulas

There are many benefits to hiring a doula that is not yet certified. The most obvious of the benefits is cost. Most certifying doulas are significantly less expensive. Many of these women have been working with childbirth and with children for many years but have just come to the point of making it into a career. These women have fulfilled the education requirements to become doulas and are ready to offer their services.

I have been married for eleven years and have two beautiful children. My daughter was delivered by cesarean section and my son was a VBAC. Through my two very different births, I realized how much education and support families really need. I look forward to providing the necessary information, options and guidance so women can be empowered and make the best choices for a safe birth. I have been attending births with Kristi since November of 2005.

Postpartum Doulas

We live in an interesting time. Families are more spread out now and mothers, aunts and cousins may not live nearby.

A postpartum doula is a very unique person who is available for support after the labor and birth. A PPD will come to your home and offer a variety of services from newborn care to laundry and cooking. Many PPD are familiar with the challenges of breastfeeding, childbirth recovery and postpartum depression. They are compassionate, educated caregivers who want your first few weeks to be the best they can be. PPDs provide both day and overnight care.

The benefits to having a postpartum doula are an increased success for breastfeeding mothers, faster maternal recovery, decreased incidence of postpartum depression and a big increase in confidence.

I am married and have three children. I have worked with children and families for ten years. I am interested in helping new mothers in all aspects of parenting. I understand the challenges of motherhood and I am uniquely able to see what needs to be done to help. I am currently certifying through CAPPA.

I have worked with children and parents since 2003. I have my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. I became interested in postpartum work when I noticed how many families mentioned getting bumpy starts. I am interested in helping new families adjust to life together. I am in the certification process through CAPPA.

"You're six times more likely to have a doctor who is an impostor than you are to suffer a uterine rupture. Two percent of docs are phonies (1 in 50), according to several sources I found. So instead of worrying about rupture, why not take a few minutes to check up on your doctor's credentials? It'd be a more profitable use of your time and a substantially more likely cause for alarm."
